Walk Two: Central Station to Danks Street circuit

Overview: From Central Station, exit at Devonshire and Chalmers Streets. Walk to Danks Street Galleries. Then walk along Young, then Crown, then down Devonshire St back to Central Station to the point where you started from.
It is quite a long walk from Central Station to Danks Street - about 30 minutes. If you wish to start the walk closer to the Danks Street galleries, you can take a bus from Central Station, at the Elizabeth Street exit. Bus #343 runs along Elizabeth Street. Alight at the corner of Phillip Street, parallel to Danks Street.
You can also take other buses from Circular Quay: Buses #301-3 and alight in Bourke Street near the corner with Danks Street. Bus #343 also starts from Circular Quay.

Start at the Central Station rear exit at the corner of Devonshire St and Chalmers St. Walk up Devonshire St to Elizabeth St and turn right. As you walk along you will pass various cafes and home renovation suppliers for the heritage terrace houses and modern inner city apartments in the area. Cross Cleveland Street and continue along Elizabeth St until you reach Philip St (a bit of a stretch), then turn left and walk up Philip St. Then turn right into Young St and then left into Danks St. The first group of galleries is in a large warehouse. In this space there are eleven galleries, mainly displaying contemporary art, and an award-winning cafe!

This space includes the following galleries: The complex is called 2 Danks Street Galleries and is on the corner of Young and Danks Sts.

Cross the road for the other galleries in Danks Street.

Walk back along Young St towards Surry Hills until you reach Cleveland St. Cross the road and turn right along Cleveland St towards Crown St to visit the next gallery.

Continue up Cleveland St and turn left into Crown St. Stop at one of the great cafes or view the chic window displays and visit the next gallery. From here, continue up Crown St and turn right into Devonshire St for the next gallery. Continue down Devonshire St and turn left into Esther Lane, then turn right into Esther St and then leftt into Raper St. Here you will find the Brett Whiteley Studio complete with the current exhibition, an open section of his workspace, various literature, and you can watch videos of his life in a relaxed atmosphere. From here you could continue with Walk One to the Sydney Antique Centre. However, to continue with Walk Two, from the Brett Whiteley Gallery turn right, then left again into Davies St and walk up to Crown St. Once you reach Crown St, turn right and wander up. Along the way you will pass restaurants including Bird Cow Fish, Toko and the Clock Hotel, clothing boutiques, furniture galleries, interiors, ceramic tiles which include the following: You can either turn left at Foveaux St and walk down the hill to Central Station or return to the corner of Crown St and Devonshire St and walk back to the Chalmers St entrance of Central Station.
Hope you had a fantastic day!
